New modem

Since my ISP is 'upgrading' their network, I received a new modem. Ran a speedtest, and capped out near 25mbit/s. Now, my router is reporting from my WAN that it's 100mbit/s full duplex, not 10mbit/s half duplex. Upload speed is the same....

Anyway, just thought I'd post about something, its Wednesday so I'm going to watching TV or play some Halo....

Streber PM

If you're a freelancer or a small dev team and are feeling unorganized, I'd recommend to use Streber PM (project management). I've been using Streber for the last year or so, and I find it completely adequate. Very simple to use and a clean design (which is important IMO).

Users can create projects, tasks, topics, milestones and much more. It's great to use for any size of projects, and has tons of options.

New server

Bought some stuff from the Canonical store recently, supposedly it'll take anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks. Awesome.

I took down all my local servers and building one larger one. For the last 8 hours or so, I've been trying to get it to work but no luck. Alright, check this out: Install Debian on HDD. Try to boot => instant restart. Back to the BIOS.
Like WTF?

Would you want it at your ISP?

Halo

Been playing Halo lately, if anyone wants to play against me, look for the server named '1337 h4xx0rz'.

Alternatives to Flickr

Sometimes Flickr doesn't cut it. Here are some Flickr alternatives I found out about:

DeviantArt is more of an art sharing group compared to a picture sharing community

10 ways to promote your blog

Here's a list comprised of the tools and techniques I used to promote this and other sites:

1. Twitter

Millions of people use Twitter, why don't you?

Target your niche of blog or site by joining the appropriate forum and post links in your signature.

5. Comments
Post comments on other peoples blog; chances are they'll post comments on yours.

6. Backlinks
Trade links with other webmasters/bloggers.
7. Dofollow

New content!

My blog is quite...boring. Monotone. Uninteresting. You name it. So, the next couple blog posts are gonna be 'helpful' you could say. Tutorials (PHP, GIMP, Linux skills, etc..), news, hacks and so on.

Just got back from a nice tiring bike ride. Only -2C out side, so it wasn't too bad. Anyway, I think I'm gonna go work on my Twitter-clone, or sleep. Sleeping sounds better.

My Jailbroken iPod Touch 2G!

Sitting on the couch, I came across a Lifehacker article about the 2G being jailbroken. I almost shit my pants, I got up off the couch and did some serious Googling. An hour later, I had mine jailbroken too. Anyways, I'd like to share some links with you guys (who ever is reading this) for those who have a 2G and know nothing about jailbreaking their iPod.

Heres the tool that I used: QuickFreedom
Follow the onscreen instuctions (which are easy as hell) and you're good to go. It should take just under an hour. Where you create your custom firmware, you can choose your own boot image (I tried a custom one, but it wouldn't build the firmware).
Once that is finished, where do you go now? Update Installer and some of the repos.

What about installing 'cracked apps' (which in most cases is illegal) ? Check this link out: http://tinyurl.com/cdql9y
In a nutshell, you update your "MobileInstallation" file, download & install any app from the AppStore and install any app of your choice via iTunes (by supplying the .ipa)

Here are some pics of my homescreen and various other screens:

Microblogging

I'm not into social networking or that kind of stuff, but I decided to join Twitter instead. I installed two apps for my iPod for Twitter and I guess I exceed 100 requests an hour.
...So I decided to make my own microblogging site. Sounds like another useless script....but oh well, something to pass the time. Sounds like a good idea? Leave a comment and let me know.

EDIT:

It seems I get quite a number of hits from this blog entry. Below, I've included the microblogging script I made.

Download here: http://geekness.eu/sites/default/files/team.zip

To install/use this script, create a directory called 'db' in your doc root and move 'team.csv' in there, also put 'ptb_ini.php' and 'pjjtextbase.php' in your doc root. And that's it. The script is quite infinished and exhibits horrible coding. Use at your own risk ;)
