Suspension

As some have you noticed, my site (geekness.eu) has been suspended the last couple days. How? It all started when Torrentino was undergoing maintainence. I needed to move Torrentino to a server, so I could work on Torrentino a little more which I ended up parking torrentino.net and torrentino.info here (on my account).

You see, Torrentino's website and tracker uses the same IP, and obiously, same domain name. So, when I moved the website to a different server, Torrentino's tracker didn't work since well, it doesn't exist on this server. But why did the site get suspended, you ask? Seems like BayTSP (yes), emailed the ISP who (I'm guessing) leases lines to the datacenter where, ta da, my website and Torrentino is hosted (temporarily). You can read the letter here: http://pastebin.ca/1498578

Red meat

Since my boredom has been growing substantially over the last couple days, I thought of building a SAN. Yes, a SAN, not a NAS. Get another web server running and put it in a round robin type config. Set up a SAN for centeralized storage (among other things), then yay!

Really, it's just an excuse to build more servers and use ports on my 24 port switch....

WorkSimple 1.2.3 was released the other day, improved on some things, 'optimized' some code.

Sysode has been going pretty well, though I'm concerned if I have the need to scale up/out. The underlying code is quite messy, I'm not a fan of neat looking code nor whitespace. I should improve on the looks of my code, it may actually be maintainable...

Working with Synergy

Having to switch between computer to computer [locally] is tiresome. Yes that's right, rotating your head 75 degrees hurts after a while, nevermind the shift in your body.

I have a tri-monitor setup, plus two laptops. Moving my hands each time to keyboard sucks. This is where Synergy comes in. In short, it's software KVM, so to speak. That means no special hardware. Share one keyboard/mouse between multiple clients. Interesting, eh?

Here's a quick tutorial on getting it set up.

TPB sold out

'Drinking' from the /. Firehose, I came across numerous stories that TPB sold out. Couple minutes later after some Googling, it seems they sold TPB for 7.8$ million (SEK 60 million). I bet they'll be going the Napster way of things and make shitloads of money.

Isn't it something like half of all torrents use TPB as a tracker? Over at TF, they'll be decentralizing things. They [TPB guys) were fined 3.5$ million, but they said so in their blog that they'll be using the money to "help with freedom of speech, freedom of information and the openess of the net."

It's sad though, disapointing in one way or another. I'd also guess that Mininova is next.

Boot's 'n cats

If you say "boots 'n cats" relatively fast, it sounds like you're beatboxing. Sorta sick right now, haven't really had the energy to work on anything (other than a little bit of Sysode).

Well, seems like I have 100$ in Staples gift cards and another 100$ in cold hard cash. Looking at their site, the Linksys BEFSX41 caught my eye. I'm also in need of a at least 750W UPS, to power all my servers incase there is no power.

Since I host Torrentino myself and manage the [three] servers, I've gotten tired of Torrentino. Maybe it's not very adventurous right now, maybe I need to add some more shit to it; I'm not sure.

At the moment, I'm up for bids ( for Torrentino).

Pi tattoo

Got my pi tattoo yesterday, pain wasn't that bad after all. It's like someone keeps pinching you in the same spot...and won't stop. Click here for a picture. Oh yeah, and it's me birthday today ;)

$explode[2]

Finally, school is almost done so maybe I'll have a little more time for my projects and such.

I've been working on Sysode lately, and it's been coming along. It's still very beta, so register if you must.

Me birthday is on the 23rd, and I've been thinking of getting a pi tattoo, maybe shoulder blade or chest somewhere. If not, was thinking about a Blackberry 8330. The G1 is on Rogers and I'm on Bell for the next 2 years....

Anyway, finally get some time off so going to go play ET:QW

Google Chrome dev on Linux

Google officially released Chrome for Mac and Linux.

Grab the x86 .deb package here, and run dpkg -i google-chrome-unstable_current_i386.deb

Got around to installing Chrome on my Thinkpad running Xubuntu. I can say for sure that it uses less resources compared to Firefox. For the most part, it works. Google stresses that it's not suitable for general use, there are many privacy features that just aren't there yet. I haven't had it crash...yet.

Keyboard cleaning

Clean your keyboard(s) with Post-its. That's right. Take one note and shove the sticky side down between the keys. Works beautifully, you'd be surprised the stuff that I picked up.

Do not read

Haven't been blogging lately due to the lack of creativity. There really has been nothing to blog about, I sorta even forget this site since most of my attention is toward Torrentino.

Anyway, I'm going to bed right now since it's 4am and I've been working on the comment system for Torrentino for the last couple hours (...?).
